Chrystal Rose

Chrystal formed Spotlight Promotions in 1979 with her sisters. Spotlight Promotions promoted various events, concerts, fashion shows and beauty contests in London and surrounding cities. Their most popular event was Mr Supercool, a male beauty contest. The final of the first year was attended by 1,800 people and was featured in a BBC documentary called, ‘Something For The Ladies’.

In 1984 Chrystal won 3rd place in a Channel 4 screenplay, writing competition with her original psychological drama script, “The Fine Edge of Friendship”. Chrystal’s first novel, “What a Bitch”, was published in 1996 by Fourth Estate.

Chrystal’s background in television started when she saw the Oprah Winfrey Show on TV in 1987 and decided, that was what she wanted to do. She assembled a team of 40 people, which included Kanya King, founder of the MOBO Awards, researched 6 subjects for a talk show and funded her own pilots. Leonard Johnson, who used to manage the Bridge Park Complex in North West London, was instrumental in inviting a BBC producer to watch Chrystal’s pilot shows, which led to her being introduced to Carlton TV, where she worked as a producer and presenter and achieved her goal, becoming the first woman in the UK to host an eponymous TV talk show for 4 series, 1993 - 1996.
